Molly's pick for November
The holiday decor swap on the 7th. Bring the box of ornaments you swore you'd use this year, leave with someone else's, and you've redecorated for free. Then head to the archaeology open house at Lake of the Woods that afternoon and call it a full Saturday.
November events
Board Game Social Hour
Board games, card games, chess and mah jongg, first Thursday of every month. Play theirs, bring yours, or let someone teach you something new. Minors come with an adult.
Winter & Holiday Decor Swap
Bring up to one medium box of clean, working holiday and winter decor between 10 and 10:30, then swap starting at 10:30. Ornaments, wreaths, garlands and stockings are welcome; big trees and large outdoor pieces aren't. Leftovers are donated.
Explore Archaeology Open House
Displays, dioramas, films, hands-on activities and a guest speaker, with museum staff, the East Central Illinois Archaeological Society and the Illinois State Archaeological Survey. Covers both prehistoric and historical archaeology. All ages.
Details from Champaign County Forest Preserve District
Nearby: Briarcliff, which has walking access to Lake of the Woods
Become a Dementia Friend
A U of I Extension webinar watched together at the library, with practical ways to support neighbors and family members living with dementia. Adults.
Cookbook Club: Baking Yesteryear
This month's cookbook is Baking Yesteryear by B. Dylan Hollis. Pick a recipe, bring the dish to share, and trade notes. Copies are at the circulation desk. Adults.
Unlucky Creatures
A Friday the 13th program on owls, moths, snakes and the other animals folklore decided were bad luck, and whether they deserve it. There's a live snake to meet up close. All ages.
OUTside in Champaign Forests guided hike
A monthly guided hike held the second Saturday of each month, open to all ages. The group welcomes LGBTQ+ hikers and allies.
Adult Crafternoon: Dried Orange & Cinnamon Garland
Make a garland from dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks. No experience needed. Can't make the afternoon? The same craft runs as an evening Craft Night on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Genealogy Workshop: Exploring Census Records
Local genealogist Maria McCollum walks through what census records hold, how to find them on FamilySearch and Ancestry, and how to use them to grow your family tree. Adults.

Thinking about living here?
Events are a good way to get a feel for a town. If you're thinking about a move to Mahomet, or a move within it, I'm happy to show you the neighborhoods and tell you what homes are selling for right now.
